Meet and Greet Picnic - August

All families are invited to attend the Welcome Picnic that is held on the Union Presbyterian front lawn. The picnic provides an opportunity for returning students and families to reconnect and for new families get to know one another before school starts. Class oriented games and ice breakers help families and students to relax and enjoy time in the sun while making new friends.

Welcome Coffee – September

Parents are encouraged to drop off their children on the first day of school, stay for coffee and treats, and chat with one another and the principal. It is a good time to establish carpools, sign up for PTF and other parent activities, and to ask those last few questions about the school year. Coffee is hosted by Union Presbyterian Church.

Muffins with Marilyn – Each Third Tuesday

After dropping off children and sharing in the prayer circle, parents are encouraged to stay for goodies and to have an informal time of fellowship with the principal, Marilyn Davidson. It is a time to discuss parenting and educational topics and to ask questions about the school.

Back to School Night – September

Parents are invited to hear directly from the principal and from teachers regarding philosophy, curriculum, classroom activities, and the daily routines of
HERITAGE ACADEMY. It is a parent-only event. Refreshments are provided.

Student Led Conferences (Grades 4-6) – November

Students meet with their parents to inform them about their progress in class. A very extensive evaluation of their work (with many forms for guidance) is completed prior to the conference so that the students can present their best work and can discuss with their parents where they need to improve. Teachers are available for discussions after the student’s meeting. Appointment times are established during the first week of November.

Parent/Teacher Conferences (Grades K-3) - November

Parents of students in grades K-3 meet with teachers in the traditional conference format. Appointment times are established during the first week of November.

Thanksgiving Feast – November

Heritage Academy “Pilgrims” host the University Child Development “Indians” for a pumpkin pie dessert to celebrate Thanksgiving. Children bring their own lunch (or have hot lunch) but eat and share tables with the pre-school children from UCDC. The HA students share the Thanksgiving story with the younger students.

Christmas Pageant– December

To enjoy some family time together and to honor the birth of Christ, Heritage Academy invites all families to attend a pasta dinner in Bailey Hall and to, afterwards, enjoy a traditional Christmas Pageant put on by the students. Carols, plays, costumes, poems and excited children are promised!

Kindergarten Open House – January

All families are encouraged to invite and bring interested friends and acquaintances to an afternoon and/or evening of information about Heritage Academy. Tours, curriculum displays, student work, and informational meetings are provided for the potential families. Specific times will be published in January, 2011.

Heroes Day – October and May

Students invite grandparents or another “special person” to come visit the Heritage Academy campus for the morning. Guests enjoy class presentations of the year’s poems and Bible verses, have a tour of the campus, meet teachers, and spend time with their student. Refreshments are provided for all.
